Neat Trick: What/Who Did They Crush?

While many go blissfully unaware, Maine’s CDC continues to report COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths among those who have received a final vaccine dose — so-called “breakthroughs.” In the past 6 weeks, between February 28 and April 11, the CDC recorded 10,389 of the 11,607 newly reported COVID-19 cases in people who had a final vaccine dose. That makes for a “breakthrough” recorded case rate of 89.5% for the period.
As of today, Maine’s COVID-19 vaccination dashboard reports that 76.61% of Maine’s population has received a final vaccine dose. That’s right, during the past 6 weeks a whopping 89.5% of the newly reported cases occurred in the 76.61% of Maine’s population that’s fully vaccinated. Only 10.5% occurred in the 23.39% of the population that’s not fully vaccinated.
Also, between February 28 and April 11, the CDC reported that 107 of the 141 newly recorded deaths with COVID-19 occurred in people who received a final vaccine dose. That amounts to a “breakthrough” death rate of 75.8%. And finally, 171 of the 268 recorded hospitalizations with COVID-19 during this time occurred among people who had received a final vaccine dose, which amounts to a “breakthrough” hospitalization rate of 63.8%.
They crushed what? Did they try to crush you?
Update 4/14/22: It’s even slightly worse than that. Maine now reports that 73.98%, not 76.61%, of Maine’s population has received a final vaccine dose. The Portland Press Herald reports, today, that about 33,000 doses that were used as second booster shots were wrongly reported as second, “final,” doses. That means, that of the 11,607 cases newly reported between 2/28 and 4/11, 89.5% of them occurred in the 73.98% of the population that received a final vaccine dose, with only 10.5% among the 26.02% of the population that is not fully vaccinated. And 75.8% of the newly reported deaths with COVID-19 during the period occurred in the 73.98% of the population that received a final vaccine dose.
