Perspective on Breakthrough COVID, Drug O.D. Deaths in Maine.
Posted by Ed Folsom, October 10, 2022.
Although it’s still dangerous to career and reputation to say it, information is slowly emerging that the mRNA COVID-19 vaccines are less safe than U.S. officialdom has insisted (which is essentially so totally safe that anyone who suggests they aren’t totally safe is a white supremacist death monger who must be destroyed!). But I’ll keep my powder dry on that, at the moment, while the information continues to stream in.
How about the effectiveness side of the equation? At one point, we were told that anyone who got vaccinated wouldn’t get COVID-19. We know that isn’t true. But did officialdom hype vaccine effectiveness in other ways?
In 2021, Maine’s CDC began releasing information on so-called breakthrough COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths from the time when vaccines first became available. The CDC updated the information weekly, or close to it, through September 20, 2022. But their most recent update was about 3 weeks ago.
Here’s a little glimpse at what the numbers show:
Breakthrough Cases:
- From March of 2021 through 9/20/2022, breakthrough cases were 44.5% of all COVID-19 cases (112,130 of 251,973).
- Between 1/3/2022 and 9/20/2022, breakthroughs were 63.17% of all new cases (88,705 of 140,402).
- Between 4/29/2022 and 9/20/2022, breakthroughs were 68.55% of new cases (29,586 of 43,156).
- Between 7/4/2022 and 9/20/2022, breakthroughs were 66.67% of new cases (11,287 of 16,929).
As more people got vaccinated, the percentage of new cases rose among the fully vaccinated. That breakthrough percentage has now roughly leveled off. Since July 4, 2022, 66.67% of new COVID-19 cases have occurred in the fully vaccinated population, currently 76.33% of Maine’s overall population, leaving 33.33% of new cases in the 23.67% of the population not considered fully vaccinated.
Breakthrough Hospitalizations:
- From March of 2021 through 9/20/2022, breakthrough hospitalizations were 43.37% of all COVID-19 cases (1,881 of 4,337).
- Between 1/3/2022 and 9/20/2022, breakthroughs were 60.12% of all hospitalizations (1,375 of 2287).
- Between 4/29/2022 and 9/20/2022, breakthroughs were 74.7% of all hospitalizations (759 of 1,016).
- Between 7/4/2022 and 9/20/2022, breakthroughs were 74.25% of all hospitalizations (421 of 567).
The percentage of breakthrough hospitalizations has risen along with the rising percentage of fully vaccinated people. Since July 4, 2022, 74.25% of all hospitalizations have occurred in the fully vaccinated population, currently 76.33% of Maine’s overall population, leaving 25.75% of new COVID hospitalizations in the 23.67% of the population not considered fully vaccinated.
Breakthrough Deaths:
- From March of 2021 through 9/20/2022, breakthrough deaths were 42.12% of all deaths with COVID-19 (736 of 1,747).
- Between 1/3/2022 and 9/20/2022, breakthrough deaths were 53% of all COVID deaths (494 of 932).
- Between 4/29/2022 and 9/20/2022, breakthrough deaths were 70.96% of all COVID deaths (176 of 248).
- Between 7/4/2022 and 9/20/2022, breakthrough deaths were 65.35% of all COVID deaths (83 of 127).
The percentage of breakthrough deaths also rose along with the percentage of fully vaccinated people and has since fallen off its peak. Since 7/4/2022, 65.35% of all new deaths with COVID-19 have occurred among the fully vaccinated population, now 76.33% of Maine’s population, leaving 34.65% of new COVID-19 deaths among the 23.67% of the population not considered fully vaccinated.
In what age groups have the cases and deaths occurred?
Throughout the entire pandemic, Maine has recorded 291,984 COVID-19 cases. Of those, 160,574 – 55% — have been in people under age 40. 197,124 of them – 67.5% — have been in people under age 50.
Only 55,769 of Maine’s 291,984 recorded COVID-19 cases – 19.7% — have occurred in people age 60 and over.
Of Maine’s 2,611 recorded deaths with COVID-19, only 46 of them – 1.7% — have occurred in people under age 40. Only 331 of them – 12.67% — have occurred in people under age 60. That’s 12.67% of the deaths in the population that’s had more than 80% of the cases.
Conversely, 2,280 – 87.3% — of Maine’s recorded deaths with COVID-19 have occurred in people age 60 and older. That’s 87.3% of the deaths in the population that’s had only 19.7% of the cases.
Overdose deaths are narrowing the gap on deaths with COVID-19.
The pandemic began in March of 2020. According to information on Maine’s Drug Data Hub, from the first of March 2020 through August of 2022, there have been 1,469 drug overdose deaths in Maine, mainly from fentanyl. That compares with 331 deaths with COVID-19 in all people under age 60 throughout the pandemic. Overall, Maine’s 1,469 overdose deaths in the period amount to more than 56% of the total number of deaths with COVID-19 during the pandemic, and more than 4 times the number of COVID-19 deaths in all people under age 60.
Note: I can state the breakthrough case, hospitalization and deaths numbers during periods that include January 3, 2022, April 29, 2022 and July 4, 2022, because I recorded the numbers as they were updated. Unfortunately, anyone checking the numbers through Maine’s CDC at this point will only see cumulative numbers for the entire period from March of 2020 to September 20, 2022.
