MAINE CRIME RATE DOWN 9.1% IN 2013.

Maine’s Department of Public Safety reports that Maine’s crime rate dropped 9.1% last year.  That’s remarkable!  The 2012 spike in pharmacy robberies tapered off in 2013, as overall robberies declined 20%, from 421 to 335.  The 32,162 crimes reported in 2013 convert to a rate of 24.3 crimes per 1,000 people, which is about 79% of the national rate of 30.8 crimes per 1,000 people.  The violent crime rate remains 1 incident per 1,000 people, which is one quarter of the national average.  Maine continues to be a very safe place.  Story below…
